About Us
Our story began with our brother: the heart of Abloom
Before our brother became someone people described by a diagnosis, he was cheeky, athletic, charismatic and a natural leader, with a wicked sense of humour.

At 18, he experienced drug-induced psychosis.

For our family, that brought grief, uncertainty and years of worrying about what his future would look like. We watched him move through unstable accommodation, sleep in his car, struggle to maintain housing and fall through gaps in a system that often seemed to see his diagnosis or behaviour before it saw him.

But to us, he was still our brother.

That experience stayed with us as we built more than a decade of experience across behaviour support and complex disability care. Professionally, we saw the same problem in different forms: generic approaches, inconsistent support teams and people with complex needs being treated as though they were simply too difficult.

We knew there had to be another way.

Abloom was founded by us, sisters Erena and Kahui, from that meeting point between lived experience and professional experience. Kahui’s commitment to practical care also led her to establish GC Storehouse following the loss of her son, a charitable service providing low-cost food and household goods to people in the local community.

What drives us today is simple.

Complexity should never make someone less deserving of dignity, capable support or genuine understanding.

Behind every diagnosis, behaviour and support plan is a person.
And we intend to keep seeing them.

Her leadership reflects a strong belief that exceptional care requires skilled people, honest communication, thoughtful planning and systems that make quality support sustainable.
